Not Dead and New Music
Hi to all of you that may still visit the page, or have any interest in what is up with me.
I just wanted to check in with you and let you know that this page and my music are on my mind every day. I was on a tear creating demos and ideas that I never fleshed out, as well as putting in many hours of work on covers of favorite songs that have yet to be finished. I have not been creating as much as I would like to (and by ‘as much’ I mean ‘at all lately’.) It’s been hard to focus as of late, and I have every intention of getting there again soon.
With that said, I have been discovering new music as much as I can as well as revisiting music that changed my life (the usuals– Elvis Costello, Beck, R.E.M., Jellyfish, Brian Wilson-era Beach Boys, Jason Falkner, Brendan Benson, Paul McCartney.)
A recent discovery for me has been an amazing band called The Explorers Club. I encountered their most recent single in a retail department store (believe it or not), and it has awakened an interest in creating again. I’ve included their single in this post. It has been in my daily rotation.
Another band that I was made aware of randomly by not only a video I found on YouTube of Jason Falkner performing with them but on Spotify as well: Pugwash. An amazing power pop group with beautiful arrangements and melodies. I am seeking as much of their music as possible so I can dive deeper.
I also stumbled upon a very obscure band out of the UK called Farrah. More fantastic pop arrangements and great lyrics.
While waiting for Lake Street Dive to perform in the coldest rainstorm I have ever stood in for 5+ hours, I was treated to a NY-based band called Lawrence. The brother/sister-led group blends funk, R&B, pop, and rock for a sound that reminds me of Jamiroquai-meets-Earth, Wind, & Fire-plus-Chicago-meets-Fitz & The Tantrums-meets-Here Come The Mummies. This young band has a dynamic ensemble including a great horn section.
So there’s kind of an update of what I have been up to and experiencing as of late. I wanted you all to know that I appreciate any attention or listens you have given me thus far, as well as the support you’ve offered me.
I haven’t given up on me, and thanks to you for not giving up on me.
Best,
Danny
